Volunteers Lead the Way in Ecological Monitoring

Wild Basin Creative Research Center volunteers report important information about birds, plants, reptiles, amphibians, and water quality.

It is only with the help of our generous volunteers that Wild Basin Creative Research Center is able to conduct extensive ecological monitoring at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve. Our most recent accomplishment was the completion of another quarterly eBird survey. Our quarterly eBird Surveys (logged in the CornellLab eBird database) began in 2015, and yield occasional surprises鈥攕uch as the red-eyed vireo that showed up in June, 2019.

In addition to eBird surveys, there are several types of ecological monitoring conducted by Master Naturalists and other volunteers with specialized training: surveys of rare and unusual plants, native plant inventories and phenological monitoring, water quality monitoring, and herpetofauna surveys.

Ecological monitoring at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is always interesting and provides valuable information for management and conservation purposes. If your background and skills are a match, and you have an interest in volunteering, please reach out via our . We鈥檇 love to hear from you.
