Hilltoppers and supporters gather in front of the Carriage House to celebrate the grand opening of the reimagined space for The Kozmetsky Center.

The new location will enhance the Kozmetsky Center’s mission to embed civics by integrating civic learning through academic and co-curricular experiences, train leaders through the Kozmetsky Faculty Fellows Program and future summer civic camps and build access by expanding outreach to K-12 students and Austin community members. In addition, the workspace will be utilized to host civic forums, speaking engagements with elected officials and livestream viewings of Austin City Council meetings. Students, faculty and staff will have access to resources essential for comprehending what and who is on the ballot for future local and state elections

The building is also home to multiple podcast booths utilized for the production of  podcast. The student-and-faculty-led podcast provides a public platform for storytelling through interviews with political experts and sharing research or public engagement experiences.

President Montserrat Fuentes celebrates the opening of the new Carriage House space for the Kozmetsky Center with David Thomason.
"The Carriage House provides more than just a new home for the Kozmetsky Center. It gives us a dynamic space where students can practice democracy in action on their path towards becoming our next generation of civic leaders shaping our communities with purpose."
David Thomason, Director for the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence
