Where Professional Theater and Rigorous Training Meet
Mary Moody Northen Theatre (MMNT) is the award-winning producing arm of the Department of Performing Arts. Operating as a professional arena theater, MMNT offers programing that enriches, engages, and entertains both the St. Edward's campus and the greater Austin community.
At MMNT, students discover their voices as performers, producers, and storytellers. Each season features a dynamic range of productions from reimagined classics to regional premieres to musicals and contemporary works. These productions challenge our students artistically and offer audiences a thought-provoking and entertaining theatre experience.
Working alongside professional actors, directors, and designers, students gain real-world experience in all facets of theatrical production both on stage and behind the scenes. This approach, combined with performing arts coursework, is essential for launching careers in theatre and fostering a lifetime of creative growth. Through our programming, we strive to build a more ethical, inclusive, and collaborative theatrical field.

Actors' Equity at MMNT: A Unique Training Experience
St. Edward's is home to the only undergraduate performing arts program in the United States that produces a full season in agreement with the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the labor union of professional actors and stage managers.
Through this agreement, Academy Award winners, Broadway veterans and TV and Film stars have shared the MMNT stage with SEU students.
While in residence, our AEA guest artists serve as mentors and collaborators - leading master classes and professional development workshops on such topics as audition techniques, monologue preparation, and career management. Their presence offers students invaluable insight into the world of professional theatre and bridges the gap between training and careers readiness.
